AMPSMemberBroadcrown Power Engineering offers expert generator servicing and maintenance across the UK for any make, model or size. Choose from one-off services or fixed-price annual contracts. Our engineers carry stock parts on their vehicles, backed by a purpose-built parts warehouse at our Staffordshire operations centre, so most work is completed in a single visit.
Depots in Staffordshire, Hemel Hempstead and Barking, plus access to Greenshields JCB’s nationwide dealership network, mean there’s an engineer within reach of your site wherever you are in the UK. Contract customers receive a guaranteed four-hour emergency response.
Broadcrown has over 40 years in the power generation industry, originally as a UK generator manufacturer, now as a specialist service provider. That depth of experience means your engineers arrive with the knowledge to handle anything from a routine annual service to a complex multi-set commissioning issue.
What a Generator Service Includes
Every servicing programme is built around your equipment and operating conditions. At minimum, we recommend a major service every 12 months and a minor service at the 6-month mark.
Major ServiceAnnual
A major service is designed to identify and resolve potential issues before they become failures, keeping your generator reliable and protecting its long-term performance and residual value.
- ✓Full engine inspection and diagnostics
- ✓Inspection of oil, fuel, air and coolant filters
- ✓Inspection of engine oil and coolant
- ✓Fuel sampling and laboratory analysis (written report returned to you)
- ✓Battery load test and terminal cleaning
- ✓Alternator inspection and electrical connection checks
- ✓Control panel function test
- ✓Full operational run at load
- ✓Written service report with recommendations flagged
Minor Service6-Monthly
A shorter check between annual services. Covers the things most likely to cause a no-start:
- ✓Engine oil and coolant levels
- ✓Battery condition and charge rate
- ✓Filter condition (air, fuel, oil)
- ✓Belt tension and wear
- ✓Visual inspection of the full installation
- ✓Test run
- ✓Summary report
Industries We Work In
Generator maintenance isn’t one-size-fits-all. A data centre needs documented test procedures and zero tolerance for downtime. A hospital needs planned maintenance that works around clinical schedules. A construction site needs fast turnaround on temporary sets. Our engineers work across every major sector that depends on standby power:
Data Centres
Multi-set diesel installations with synchronised paralleling and automatic transfer switching. We understand the uptime demands of Tier III/IV facilities and the compliance documentation that goes with them.
Healthcare & NHS
Hospitals, care homes, and medical facilities. We've provided critical power services to NHS trusts for over 30 years, including the Princess Royal University Hospital. When power fails in a healthcare setting, people's lives depend on the standby system working.
Financial & Commercial
Office buildings, trading floors, and commercial property across London and the UK, where even a brief power outage can carry significant financial and operational consequences.
Emergency Services
Police, fire, and ambulance stations that require guaranteed standby power availability at all times.
Construction
Temporary and permanent power on construction sites, including containerised systems.
Industrial & Manufacturing
Factories, warehouses, and distribution centres. Maintenance is scheduled around your production cycles, including nights and weekends.
Makes & Models We Service
All major generator manufacturers are covered. Our engineers have hands-on experience across:

Why Generator Servicing Matters
Standby generators face a unique challenge: they need to perform reliably despite spending most of their life idle. Without regular maintenance, several common issues can develop:
Fuel degradation
Modern diesel degrades in 6-12 months of storage. Water ingress, microbial contamination (“diesel bug”), and oxidation can block filters, damage injectors, and prevent the engine from starting. Regular fuel sampling and analysis catches these problems early.
Carbon build-up
A generator that only runs at light load during routine tests never burns cleanly. Carbon deposits form on valves, piston crowns, and exhaust ports, leading to oil leaks, excessive smoke, and reduced performance over time. Annual load bank testing at full rated output prevents this.
Battery deterioration
Battery failure is the most common cause of a generator not starting. Batteries degrade gradually, particularly in cold or unheated plant rooms. Without periodic testing, there’s no warning before the automatic start sequence fails.
Compliance & insurance
Many sectors require documented evidence of regular generator maintenance as part of fire safety, insurance, and regulatory obligations. Detailed service records provide the audit trail needed to demonstrate compliance.
Generator Maintenance Contracts
For predictable costs and guaranteed response times, a fixed-price maintenance contract removes the uncertainty from managing your standby power. Our Asset Care agreements include:
- One major service per year
- One minor service per year
- Annual load bank test
- 24/7 emergency call-out cover (4-hour response)
- All labour, parts and wear items included
- No surprise invoices
Contracts run from 12 to 36 months. Services are scheduled in advance, parts procurement is managed for you, and you have a single point of contact for everything power-related.
Ad-hoc servicing is also available if a contract isn't the right fit, though contract customers benefit from lower per-visit costs, inclusive parts, and guaranteed emergency response times.
Emergency Call-Outs
When your generator fails unexpectedly, a fast response makes all the difference. Our emergency team is available 24/7, 365 days a year. When you call, you'll speak to a real person with the technical knowledge to help you start resolving the issue immediately, not an answering service. Every service vehicle is stocked with a range of common parts, and many faults are resolved on the first visit. Where an immediate repair isn't possible, a temporary replacement generator can be arranged to keep your operation running while the work is completed.
✓ Contract customers: engineer on site within 4 hours, guaranteedLoad Bank Testing
A routine test run confirms your generator starts. Load bank testing goes further, running the generator at maximum capacity in a controlled environment to confirm it can actually deliver the power your building needs under real emergency conditions. Annual testing is recommended for all standby generators.
We own and operate our own load bank fleet (100kW to 1,000kW, scalable to 3MW with synchronised units). Having the equipment in-house means load bank testing can be offered at competitive rates and scheduled when it suits your operation, not just when hired equipment is available. A full test includes delivery, installation, incremental load testing, a detailed performance report, and collection. We'll work outside normal hours if that's what your operation requires.

UPS Servicing
A generator protects against extended mains failures. A UPS system covers the gap between mains failure and generator start-up. Both need to be maintained together for reliable power protection.
We work with specialist UPS engineers to service all major UPS manufacturers. A typical UPS service includes visual inspection, software diagnostics, battery runtime testing, load percentage checks, and event history download to identify any developing issues. UPS maintenance can be included in your Asset Care contract alongside generator servicing — one agreement covering all your critical power equipment.
